We all deal with extreme heat from time to time, and it can be very dangerous to be working outdoors in the intense sun. In our trade, where folks often work alone on a job site, the danger is multiplied. We have to recognize our own syMPToms and be prepared to treat ourselves with First Aid.

Watch for the syMPToms for heat exhaustion: headaches, light-headedness, fainting or general muscle weakness, confusion, vomiting, clammy skin.

First Aid: Get into the shade and rest. Remove any heavy clothing. Sip cool water very slowly. Apply a damp cloth to your forehead. Call 911 for help. If not treated in time, heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke or even death.
